APPLE BREAD TOPPING:
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans.
APPLE BREAD:
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup butter, softened.
2 cups sugar.
4 eggs.
2 teaspoons vanilla extract.
1/4 cup buttermilk
3 cups coarsely chopped apples.
1 cup chopped walnuts.
12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips.
Method:

Combined sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts in a cup. Set aside.
APPLE BREAD:
Preheat oven to 350°F
Grease two 9x5x 3 inch loaf pans.
In a small bowl, combine the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside.
In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until creamy.
Add the eggs and vanilla extract; mix well
Gradually beat in flour mixture alternately with buttermilk.
Stir in apples, walnuts, and chocolate chips.
Pour in prepared pans.
Sprinkle with topping.
Bake for 50 to 60 minutes until cake tester inserted in the centre comes out clean.
Cool for 15 minutes before removing from pan.
Cool completely.
Makes two loaves.
